Don't Expect Robert Kraft to Accept Reported Deal in Prostitution Case

  • Patriots owner Robert Kraft offered a plea deal in prostitution case- with a catch

Prosecutors have offered a plea deal to Kraft and 24 other men in which charges would be dropped for soliciting prostitution, the Palm Beach State Attorney confirmed Tuesday.

He appeared in court to accept the deal.

Kraft, the Patriots billionaire owner, has already denied the charges brought against him through his lawyer, who said in a statement, "We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity".

Kraft is charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution, to which the 77-year-old has already filed a written plea of not guilty.

However, the reported offer comes with a catch: The men must admit they would have been found guilty had their cases gone to trial. Pre-trial diversion programs generally require defendants to admit guilt and complete conditions such as taking anti-crime classes, community service and paying fines before the charges are dropped. Judges then issued warrants allowing them to secretly install cameras inside the spas to record what transpired.

But police said they have Kraft on surveillance video entering the day spa, paying for services and receiving oral sex on two occasions, including on the day the Patriots played in the AFC Championship Game. He allegedly visited the Orchids of Asia Day Spa on January 19 and January 20, and during both visits, paying for sex acts by a woman.

Court papers say numerous workers at the massage parlors targeted in the investigation were forced to live at the spas and were not allowed to leave without an escort.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James said the team would have no comment. "Nine other spas in Orlando, Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast had also been shut down as part of the investigation".

"For a team owner to engage in sexual exploitation is incompatible with the NFL's personal conduct policy".
