Shortly after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced that he was forging a second bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, the hosts of "Fox & Friends", President Donald Trump's favorite morning show, warned viewers of the dangers of a "legitimate socialist" clinching the nomination.

But after reportedly workshopping names for the current crop of Democrats hoping to defeat him in the 2020 election, the president has apparently settled on a nickname he's used before for the one candidate who almost squared off against him in 2016: Sen.

But his sustained popularity in early voting states, massive network of small donors and powerhouse digital operation, including a social media network far larger than that of any Democrat, give Sanders big advantages as the race gets underway.

Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, John Delaney and Julian Castro are among those who have also announced their intention to run. While she ultimately became the party's nominee, his campaign helped lay the groundwork for the leftward lurch that has dominated Democratic politics in the Trump era.

The self-proclaimed democratic socialist is hoping that 2020 will be his moment, arguing that many of his once-fringe ideas are now accepted by the Democratic Party. And even at the advanced age of 77, Mr. Sanders has established himself as a candidate who enjoys an electoral brawl.

It remains to be seen if any of them will withdraw and back Sanders or whether they will duke it out in a Democratic field that resembles the Republican scrum in 2016 when Donald Trump overcame 16 other contenders for the party nomination. Bernie Sanders into the 2020 race for president.

Thanks to his widely popular 2016 run, the senator also enjoys serious name recognition, but is it enough?

He would need to best multiple formidable rivals - including former vice president Joe Biden, should he enter the race - and victory is anything but assured. Americans like numerous ideas Sanders proposes - at least in the abstract - but they get skittish when presented with the costs and other fine print.

Ms. Warren is making her refusal to take money from PACs and federal lobbyists a central part of her fundraising pitch, insisting she will not be beholden to special interest groups. The 39-year-old former aide to Harry Reid will be the first Muslim to manage a presidential campaign.

Sanders faces some other difficulties, as well.

The New York Times reports that Sen.

With Mr. Sanders and his "radical" agenda in the spotlight this time, expect the rhetoric to reach volcanic temperatures early in what will soon feel like an endless march to the 2020 vote.
