  • F*ck the media’ Trump supporter goes berserk and attacks BBC cameraman at El Paso rally

The cameraman was filming the rally in El Paso when the incident happened. The cameraman told the BBC he was caught unaware by a "very hard shove".

The alleged assailant screams "f*ck the media" as he's pulled away from Skeans, and the crowd begins to chant "let him go" as they become aware of the disturbance.

Skeans said he and his camera was nearly knocked over twice before the protester was wrestled away.

A BBC spokeswoman said Skeans was "violently pushed and shoved by a member of the crowd" as he covered the rally.

At his own campaign rally in 2016, Trump encouraged supporters to attack protesters.

The BBC's Washington correspondent Gary O'Donoghue describe the attack as "incredibly violent" in a radio interview, according to USA Today.

Mr Trump has been critical of media, which he calls the enemy of the people.

"We are relieved that, this time, no one was seriously hurt", the WHCA said.

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) later asked the White House to review security for media attending President Trump's rallies.

Eleanor Montague, BBC Washington producer, was also in attendance at the rally, and tweeted, "Just attended my first ⁦@realDonaldTrump⁩ rally where my colleague BBC cameraman Rob Skeans was attacked by a Trump supporter. We appreciate the swift action from venue security and law enforcement", Michael Glassner, Chief Operating Officer, Trump for President Inc., said in a statement issued Tuesday.

Donald Trump's rise to becoming President has been marked by a hostile tone towards the vast swathes of the media, bar the outlets that support him such as the right-wing, Rupert Murdoch-owned broadcaster Fox News.

After telling the crowd he was "making a stand for the truth", O'Rourke said El Paso was "one of the safest cities in America - safe not because of walls but in spite of walls". "Access into the media area was unsupervised". "I have been spat at before, they hurl abuse at American colleagues in particular", he added.

Trump has made hostility toward the media a feature of many of his rallies, where a metal barricade usually separates his supporters from reporters. "It's outrageous that a journalist was attacked while covering a presidential speech", Alexandra Ellerbeck, the nonprofit organisation's North America programme coordinator, said in a statement.
