A Texas man died after a vaping device he was smoking exploded in the parking lot of a vape supply store, severing his carotid artery, KTVT reports.

According to NBC News, William Brown's death certificate states he died from cerebral infarction and herniation after the debris from the exploding vape pen cut his left carotid artery.

William Eric Brown, 24, was using the vaping device in his vehicle outside the Smoke & Vape DZ store in North Fort Worth on January 27, just moments after purchasing it, according to his grandmother.

She continued: "It just all seems so unreal".

"That three-piece thing went into his throat and stayed there, and that's what (physicians) should have taken out as soon as they got to the hospital, and they made a decision to wait until Monday or Tuesday", Alice Brown said.

William Brown died two days after the January 27 explosion, which sent shrapnel into his neck and skull.

A report from the US Federal Emergency Management Agency said 133 people were injured by faulty devices between January 2009 and December 2016.

According to Smoke & Vape DZ, Brown did not purchase anything from the store but asked for help using his Mechanical Mod style vape pen.

Alice said she does not plan to sue the health network because it will not bring her grandson back to life, but remained critical of their decision not to operate. His family told the local TV station that doctors at JPS Patient Care Pavilion knew he had a piece of e-cigarette lodged in his throat but never operated on him. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, defective e-cigarette batteries have caused fires and explosions. It's not clear what type of vape pen Brown was using.

A Texas man is dead after his electronic cigarette exploded while he was using it.

An e-cigarette is being blamed for the death of a Fort Worth man, CBS Dallas reports.

Researchers found that there were an estimated 2,035 e-cigarette explosions and burn injuries in hospital emergency rooms from 2015 to 2017.

According to WFAA News, a man in Florida died a year ago after a vape pen exploded, sending debris into his skull.

Mohamad Zayid Abdihdy was checking out a TV when his e-cigarette exploded in his trousers pocket.
