Nintendo Delays Mario Kart Tour to Later in 2019

The partnership, which was announced alongside the game, will see the duo "co-develop and jointly operate" Dr. Mario World. If you're not familiar with Dr. Mario, there is a Tetris-style falling-block layout where you maneuver different color capsules to kill off viruses. Nintendo had previously partnered with Line for sticker packs in that app but had relied on a partnership with DeNA for games like Super Mario Run and Miitomo. That summer launch is still months away though, and, hopefully, Nintendo will be able to release Mario Kart Tour before that.

Products like Pikachu dolls and other merchandise featuring Nintendo characters, such as a Monopoly board game starring Super Mario, are some examples of how the company hopes to cash in on its rich content.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is pushing into mobile gaming but is yet to score a major hit.

Earlier today, we heard that Nintendo was delaying its Mario Kart Tours for IOS until the summer of this year, stating that it needs more time. Inverse to this recent rumor, Wall Street Journal Japan reported past year that Nintendo was discussing a new version of Switch that would upgrade the system's low-end LCD display and could arrive in the second half of 2019.

Dr. Mario World will be available in 60 countries, and in multiple languages, including Japanese and English. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best selling Switch game to date, with 15.02 million copies sold.
