The former California state attorney general has become popular with liberal activists for her tough questioning of Trump administration appointees and officials, including Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, during Senate hearings.

But Ms Harris has also experienced discrimination.

His speech focused on policies he championed while New York's mayor, such as his efforts to improve schools and reduce neighborhood pollution.

Hawaiian Democrat Representative Tulsi Gabbard has also announced her intention to run for president. The state also moved up its primary into the first month, and anyone who wins this state will be very far along to the nomination.

She sought to use the anecdotes in the new book to demonstrate her toughness, including how she took on the big banks as California's attorney general after the foreclosure crisis and held out for a $20 billion settlement for California homeowners. Since both are people of colour, he said they latched onto one another. "And [Trump] read it accurately".

"The more deft among the candidates-and we'll see if Harris is among them-will figure out how to distance themselves from their records with honest apologies and, even better, actions that manifest a commitment to change", she wrote.

Harris is planning to base her presidential campaign in Baltimore, with a second office in Oakland.
