The 59-year-old Oscar-winning actor is accused of groping the 18-year-old man in a Nantucket restaurant in 2016.

A MA judge on Monday denied actor Kevin Spacey's request to skip his upcoming arraignment on a felony charge he faces for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man at a Nantucket bar in 2016, court documents show.

Spacey says in documents received by the Nantucket District Court on Monday that he's pleading not guilty and believes he should be excused from appearing at his January 7 arraignment.

Spacey argued he should be excused from appearing next week because his presence would "amplify the negative publicity already generated in connection with this case". Defendants are required to appear for court arraignments unless their appearance is waived by a judge, according to MA court officials.

Also Monday, a newly-released affidavit says the actor plans to plead not guilty to the charge. The cap was a reference to the year his career imploded amid a number of sexual assault and harassment claims which emerged after Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp alleged Spacey attempted to sleep with him when he was just 14 years old.

Prosecutors opposed the motion, calling on the judge to deny it, according to court documents obtained by the paper. On the day he was charged, the actor released a freaky video on his social media accounts in which he revived his deceased House of Cards character, Frank Underwood, to deliver a pre-prepared monologue protesting his innocence.
