  • Djokovic has regained the consistency he struggled to find earlier this year

Novak Djokovic continued his extraordinary winning streak as he clinched a third consecutive tournament triumph with a straight-sets victory against Borna Coric in the Shanghai Masters final.

Shanghai: Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who crashed out of the ongoing Shanghai Masters after losing to Borna Coric of Germany in their semi-final match, has said that he is "actually happy" with his performance as he is playing well on the court.

The 31-year-old will leapfrog Roger Federer into second in the world when the rankings are released on Monday but will not stop there as the season reaches its climax.

Dropping just four points on his serve in the first set, Djokovic demolished Coric 6-3. The Serb offered 13th-seeded Coric one break point in the match, in the sixth game of the second set.

After months of recovery from elbow surgery and a drop in his level of play that sent him tumbling down the rankings, Djokovic has recovered in the second half of the year to win titles at Wimbledon, the US Open and the Cincinnati Masters and now Shanghai. "I'm going to decide with my team in a few days", Djokovic said. So this was definitely one of the best service weeks that I had in my career.

"And where I was about four months ago and where I am today is quite an extreme opposite". "I am very close to Rafael Nadal in the rankings and I have put myself in a very good position for the last period of the year. Not many holes in the game in general, especially this week." he added.

However Djokovic served out and he has now won 18 matches in a row and will rise to No 2 in the world.

"I found it and I'm just trying to hold on to it as long as I can".

"I have been playing really well throughout my career in China".

It is almost two years since Djokovic topped the rankings and he has made it his mission to topple the injured Nadal before the year is out. "Obviously I work hard for it". With the real battle in front of him come the final, Coric stumbled at the last hurdle to hand over Djokovic the trophy with relative ease.
