"If you do see concrete action that assures the USA, the rest of the world that definitely concrete steps are being taken to eliminate very important parts of their nuclear program, then that's a definite step forward and builds the trust", Kang told The Washington Post in an interview last week.

Pompeo said he wanted "a fully coordinated, unified view of how to proceed, which will be what is needed if we are going to be successful in denuclearizing North Korea".

Afterward, Pompeo was expected to meet with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung Wha. It has not taken any steps to halt nuclear weapons or missile development. -North Korea denuclearization talks.

"I don't have much to add", Pompeo replied.

But the old dream that had guided so many USA negotiators intent on getting the North to abandon all its nukes? "I thought we had a good, productive conversation, and as President Trump has said, there are many steps along the way, and we took one of them today, another step forward".

"This is a busy time diplomatically", said Al Jazeera's McBride.

In June, Trump met Kim in Singapore for the first-ever summit between the countries. "Thanks for hosting me and my team".

Later Sunday, Oct. 7, Pompeo flew to Seoul, where he met South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
