Times says it was wrong to have writer on Kavanaugh story

  • Liz Swisher a former Yale classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh alleges he lied under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee

Kavanaugh was accused of throwing ice at someone in the bar, but was not charged with an offense or arrested, police spokesman David Hartman said.

The report says 21-year-old Dom Cozzolino told police that Kavanaugh threw ice at him for "some unknown reason". Dudley, who played basketball for Yale and then went on to play in the NBA, is cited as having smashed a beer glass over Cozzolino's head. According to his Yale classmate and former drinking buddy Chad Ludington, that fight started after Kavanaugh and friends mistook a man in the bar for Ali Campbell, the frontman of the British reggae group UB40, much to the band's chagrin.

He said that the altercation happened after a UB40 concert on September 25, when he and a group of people went to Demery's and were drinking pints.

Ludington, who attended Yale University with Kavanaugh, made several public statements today contradicting the testimony the Supreme Court nominee gave last week before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The man noticed Ludington, Kavanaugh and the others looking at him and - according to Ludington - aggressively asked them to stop.

"Those are fundamental values we try to instill in our students". I was with Brett frequently in college, whether it be in the gym, in class or socializing. Kavanaugh's drinking history, which has come up in the allegations, is not part of the probe, a source tells CNN. "And in all the years I have known him, I have never seen him to be disrespectful or inappropriate with women".

Neither Kavanaugh nor the White House has commented on the report as of this writing.

"The person [reporters] are trying to describe", Dudley added, "would not be able to function day to day".

"She is not a news reporter", said Times' spokeswoman Eileen Murphy. She said she was "100 percent" sure Kavanaugh did it, while Kavanaugh swore he has "never sexually assaulted anyone".

"Without making it sound less important, this is a college town - things haven't changed in that we deal with these types of incidents on a daily basis", Hartman said.
