Barca shouldn't 'depend' on one player - Messi

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi says the La Liga champions are "angry" about dropping seven points in their last three league games after he came off the bench to help his side scrape a 1-1 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

With Valverde beginning to rotate his team - Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba started on the bench for their loss at Leganes last time out - Barca have failed to win their last three games.

"When I make the decision, I think about what's best for my team and for my club", Valverde told a news conference.

Asked about Pique's focus, Valverde said, "I see that he is very focused on football". "Sergi Roberto got injured today, imagine if Messi had".

There was not a lot of strength of depth on display in the first half as Barcelona fell behind to an Oscar de Marcos goal on 41 minutes.

Athletic was trying to win at Camp Nou for the first time since 2001. FC Barcelona signed players like Arturo Vidal to bolster their midfield department but still believe they have not yet completely filled the absence of Iniesta. And after Philippe Coutinho hit the bar on 60 minutes, Messi's free kick was headed off the line as Bilbao battled bravely to keep their lead in tact.

AC Milan loanee Silva pounced four minutes later after poor goalkeeping from Thibaut Courtois, netting for the sixth time this season and moving above Lionel Messi as the top scorer in Spain, although Gareth Bale nearly pulled one back for Real when his shot struck the post.

Messi nearly doubled their lead five minutes later as he collected a loose ball and lined up a shot from 21 yards out that hit the top of the crossbar, before the Argentine drew a comfortable save out of Ivan Cuellar moments later with a side-footed effort from 19 yards out.

Nabil El Zhar scored the equaliser for the hosts with a fantastic header before Real Madrid's loaned player to Leganes, Oscar Rodriguez got the victor.

"We can't depend on Messi to enter the match and solve things for us", Suarez said.
