Kavanaugh accuser says her strongest memory is 'uproarious laughter'

Ford and Kavanaugh, a conservative federal appeals court judge picked by Trump in July for a lifetime job on the high court, were the only two witnesses scheduled.

Ford claims Kavanaugh attacked her at a house party while they were both high school students in the '80s.

If Democrats manage to defeat Kavanaugh's nomination, Americans on the right will not only be furious that Republicans caved, they will be inclined to believe that future allegations of sexual misconduct are nothing more than political weapons, and that conservatives seeking high office can not expect the presumption of innocence, due process, or anything close to a fair hearing.

Blasey Ford testified that Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge, both "visibly drunk", pushed her into an upstairs room at the party and locked the door.

As for the hearing with Ford on Thursday, Hill wasn't too optimistic it would be an improvement from her own hearing in 1991.

Ford says she eventually escaped.

She also said the format of Thursday's hearing would not allow the general public to understand the significance of the accusations - and Kavanaugh's response to them.

In Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing, two Democratic senators with 2020 ambitions - New Jersey's Cory Booker and California's Kamala Harris - took center stage, asking the most aggressive questions and galvanizing both progressive opposition and conservative support.

Online lender Avant invited its employees to the main boardroom at its Loop headquarters for a current events talk on the Kavanaugh hearing, said Chris Armsey, senior vice president of people and communications.

Ford went on to say that "Brett's assault on me drastically altered my life" but "I convinced myself that because Brett did not rape me, I should be able to move on and just pretend that it had never happened". The talks are a safe space for employees to express themselves, though they are encouraged to keep their conversations work appropriate, Armsey said.

Republicans are pushing to seat Kavanaugh before the November midterms, when Senate control could fall to the Democrats and a replacement Trump nominee could have even greater difficulty. All the three allegations have been denied by the Supreme Court nominee. If Senate Republicans confirm Kavanaugh, the left will forever claim that the GOP ignored "credible claims" from women and put a rapist on the Supreme Court.

Ford told The Post that she told her therapist and her husband about the encounter in 2012. We held a closed session for members to ask sensitive questions on the last evening, which the ranking member did not attend (Senator Dianne Feinstein). "And no, I've never done anything like that". She said no. Asked how certain she was Justice Kavanaugh had assaulted her, she said "100 per cent".

Protesters opposing Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.

Dr Ford alleges that Mr Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her 36 years ago.

Swetnick says that Kavanaugh's claim that he did not have sexual intercourse until many years after high school is "absolutely false and a lie".

Judge Kavauaugh has said he may have met Ms Ford but denies any assault took place.

Swetnick, in an interview on MSNBC, said she had not planned to air her allegations one day before the hearing.

In a clash along a polarized nation's political and cultural fault lines, Kavanaugh and Ford were the only witnesses invited to testify before the panel of 11 Republicans - all men - and 10 Democrats.
