Kavanaugh says he won't 'be intimidated into withdrawing'

In his speech, McConnell referenced the reluctance of the New York Times - a frequent punching bag for President Trump and conservative lawmakers - to print Ramirez's allegations.

At Yale University, where Kavanaugh allegedly exposed himself to Ramirez at a party as a freshman in 1983, students filled a hallway in silent protest.

In his letter on Monday, Kavanaugh said of the allegations against him: "These are smears, pure and simple". "This 35-year-old uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear a good man down", said Kupec.

The agreement and the latest accusation set the stage for a dramatic showdown as Kavanaugh and Ford each tell their side of the story.

Tensions have been running on overdrive since Ms Ford, a 51-year-old college professor in California, went public with her allegation that Mr Kavanaugh assaulted her when they were at a house party in high school.

Ford's attorneys say that several requests they have made of the committee have been refused, such as calling additional witnesses who Ford remembers being at the party, and having the FBI investigate her story.

For survivors and the people who care about them, the message is crushing and familiar: Your experience doesn't matter.

Kavanaugh also denies those allegations.

Kavanaugh accuser Ford agrees to testify... They asked for the FBI to investigate the Ford allegation.

She told the publication she remembered Kavanaugh was stood to her right and recalled him pulling up his trousers while he and other students laughed. The 11 senators on the GOP side of the dais are all men, creating unsafe optics for a hearing that will be carried on live television. They could also use Republican staff attorneys on the committee.

Senator Orrin Hatch, a Republican member of the committee, blamed Democrats for the new allegation.

"I would think an FBI investigation would be warranted", she told The New Yorker. She said that Judge did not name others involved in the incident, and she has no knowledge that Kavanaugh participated. News of Ramirez's accusation broke mere hours later, prompting Senate Democrats to demand Kavanaugh's confirmation vote be postponed yet again.

"Enough is enough", Fallon said in a statement. I hope u understand.

The committee's Republican leader Chuck Grassley wanted the hearing to take place on Wednesday, but Ford asked that it be held on Thursday at the earliest, as she would be able to call as a witness a man she says was present during the assault, the report said. Graham said he's "not going to ruin Judge Kavanaugh's life over this".

"There is only one way to get to the bottom of these allegations against Judge Kavanaugh and prevent the nation from being thrown into further turmoil: an independent background check investigation by the FBI", Chuck Schumer, the senior Democrat in the Senate, said on Twitter. Ford has retrained an anti-Trump lawyer and took a polygraph.

Trump made clear that he expects the Republican-controlled Senate to stick by Kavanaugh, who he said was being smeared by his Democratic opponents.

One of the authors behind the latest account into accusations against Kavanaugh, Jane Mayer, told "CBS This Morning" that at a "certain point.there's things people won't say to a reporter that they might feel they need to say to the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

Durbin told ABC's "This Week" that some Republicans "reached out to Democratic senators and assured them that they are looking to this as kind of a determination as to how their final vote" on Kavanaugh is cast.

Hatch, a former Judiciary Committee chairman who is leaving office in January, says he believes Kavanaugh's denial and previously said that Ford must be "mistaken". The first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, is expected to do so on Thursday.

"This alleged behavior would render Judge Kavanaugh unfit for the Supreme Court, or for any court", said Emily Martin, vice president for education and workplace justice at the National Women's Law Center. Trump broke his silence to cast doubt on Ford's story Friday in ways Republicans had been carefully trying to avoid.
