Djokovic said he changed his shirt 10 times in his quarter-final victory over Millman in a match which was held up for more than six minutes at 2-2 in the second set when the Australian left the court to change his clothes.

He will now face Novak Djokovic or John Millman on Friday.

Raducanu and McHugh will both look to reach the junior quarter-finals while Alfie Hewett, who had to sleep on an airport floor during a nightmare journey to NY, and Gordon Reid begin the defence of their wheelchair doubles title.

Osaka was an easy victor in her quarterfinal, eliminating unseeded Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine 6-1, 6-1 in all of 57 minutes.

"I gave it a crack", said the 29-year-old Millman, who has battled a litany of injuries in his career.

The victory also completed a historic day for Japanese tennis, with Naomi Osaka routing Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko 6-1 6-1 and the pair became the first Japanese man and woman to reach the semi-finals of the same grand slam. "I was not feeling well", she said.

Both players spoke to the umpire about the boisterous hum coming from the late-arriving Arthur Ashe crowd.

Still in search of her first Grand Slam title, the Keys reached her third semifinal in the past five majors by using her big-strike game built on serves and forehands to overpower No. 30 Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-4, 6-3.

Kei Nishikori got some measure of revenge Wednesday at the US Open against Marin Cilic. At 2-2 in the second set Millman was allowed to leave the court to change his kit after the umpire ruled that the playing surface had become risky because of the floods of sweat dripping off the 29-year-old.

The world number seven, who has reached two Grand Slam finals since his triumph in 2014, did steady the ship in the fourth set and his superiority told as he grabbed the all-important break in the seventh game to send the match into a decider.

And as against Federer, that was enough to lose the first set after Djokovic benefited from a lucky net chord and then fought off a break point in the final game to serve the set out.

"Very tested", said Djokovic, who admitted that like many he was surprised to find himself facing Millman, not Federer, across the net.

Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori blazed a trail into the US Open quarter-finals yesterday morning (Singapore time), putting a Japanese man and woman in the last eight together at Flushing Meadows for the first time. Many different elements play a role in these particular matches, and very few points really. Now, she needs to do it one more time to advance to her first career final.

Serbian tennis participant Novak Djokovic defeated John Millman and superior to the semifinals of the US Open, Sport24 reported.

This night was cooler, as the temperature dipped, but the humidity was above 80 percent, so with Millman drenched, he sought permission for a wardrobe change at 2-2 in the second set. Djokovic was only too happy to have a break.

"We were both struggling and trying to hang in there". He was able to come through on only four of his 20 break points.

Cilic responded strongly, noticeably raising his intensity, but the Croatian's serve broke down at a crucial moment as the set was decided in a tie-break.
