  • NOAA: Hurricane Florence Projected Path, Spaghetti Models

Many factors will influence the storm's path in coming weeks, Ellis said, making threats uncertain at this time.

The hurricane center's latest "cone of uncertainty" for Tropical Storm Gordon is a good representation of numerous weather computer models: Most are in good agreement the storm will move off to the northwest.

Louisiana Gov John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency on Monday and said 200 National Guard troops will be deployed to south-eastern Louisiana. High shear prevents a storm from organizing or can even tear it apart.

In Sebastian and Vero Beach, Tropical Storm Gordon will likely bring wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour and scattered thunderstorms.

Tropical Storm Gordon has left many businesses on Florida's Gulf Coast feeling shortchanged by the holiday weekend.

A hurricane watch has been issued from the Mouth of the Pearl River to the Alabama-Florida Border.

As Florence spun in the open ocean, Tropical Storm Gordon approached the Gulf Coast after drenching parts of Florida. As Gordon heads towards the Gulf Port of Tampa may suffer from the bad conditions. Periods of torrential rain and strong winds should continue overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday. People are urged to stay up to date along the coast in case local officials issue evacuation orders. Don't drive your vehicle onto any water-covered roads in coastal and inland areas.

Parts of the Gulf Coast could see 3 to 6 inches of rain and South Florida could see up to 8 inches of rain.

"Rapid weakening is expected after Gordon moves inland, " the hurricane center said.

"It's something to keep an eye on, for sure", said Ryan Ellis, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The region could see rising waters of three to five feet. "Surge-related flooding depends on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle, and can vary greatly over short distances". That rainfall combined with increased tidal surges are likely to result in localized flooding in the affected areas. Sustained winds could peak at 30 to 35 miles per hour with gusts over 40 miles per hour in parts of coastal Lee and Collier Counties late Monday afternoon and Monday evening. "Trees will be the main concern as far as the winds go". Scattered power outages are likely.

The Weather Prediction Center is forecasting rain totals as high as 5 inches through Wednesday morning in South Florida.
