Samsung mobile CEO DJ Koh told CNBC that, as of this year, Samsung mobile will "bring technology and differentiation starting from the mid-end", starting with its Galaxy A lineup. However, he suggested that more details would be revealed at the Samsung Developer Conference scheduled for November 7 and 8.

Previously Samsung has confirmed it was working on a device with a foldable screen - a phone that has always been codenamed the Samsung Galaxy X - but this is the first time we've had a clear launch window, and the information is straight from the head of Samsung's mobile division as well.

Huawei CEO, Richard Yu, has earmarked 2021 as the year Shenzhen-based company will overtake Samsung as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. When unfolded, the device will offer a different experience than a tablet.

I'm still not sure I'm sold on the need for this, and I really hope they aren't going to unfold a phone into a DeX experience. Users of the device must immediately understand why Samsung chose to make it, Koh said.

The device had a bendable display that reached the size of a tablet once it was unfolded.

The first phone to follow this new strategy will reportedly be this year's Galaxy A series phone and will be priced at $400.

Samsung is switching its usual strategy of delivering the latest and greatest technology to its flagship Galaxy S phones first, before the features trickle down to its mid-range devices.

Digitimes Research reports it has discovered that most of the smartphones with a foldable screen have an in-folding display. Overall Samsung is looking for the use-case which says "wow, this is the reason Samsung made it", simplified Koh. The firm is expected to launch three new iPhones, but they are likely to be iterative designs rather than major innovations like 2017's iPhone X. All three phones are expected to sport the iPhone X's "notch" design, and its edge-to-edge screen. But has never released a phone that completely folds, or a screen that people can bend themselves.
