A fresh natural disaster measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked Indonesia's Lombok island on Thursday, August 9, pushing the death toll up to 319.

He estimated 75% of houses are damaged in some villages in east and north Lombok.

FACEBOOK says it "regrets" an algorithm blunder that caused balloons and confetti to appear over posts about the deadly natural disaster in Indonesia this month.

The Red Cross said the initial quake was "exceptionally destructive". He told the Jakarta Globe that "residents panicked and ran from their shelters" and "several buildings were further damaged".

The numbers have increased as reports came in from areas isolated by the 6.9 magnitude quake, which struck off the waters of the northern part of Lombok island.

Indonesia's chief security minister Wiranto, who like many Indonesians goes by one name, said the latest figures before the third quake suggested 319 people had died.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.9.

Officials have said that the death toll will likely rise as rescuers continue to sift through the rubble.

" 'It was overwhelming, ' Andoni's 35-year-old brother-in-law, Ilham, said of the chaotic aftermath of Sunday's magnitude 7.0 quake on the island of Lombok".

"In some villages we visited the destruction was nearly 100 percent, all houses collapsed, roads are cracked and bridges were broken", said Arifin Muhammad Hadi, a spokesman for the Indonesian Red Cross.

On Indonesia's earthquake-devastated Lombok island, people are reeling as they mourn more than 300 dead and sleep in makeshift shelters, but foremost in the minds of some is rebuilding the collapsed mosques that were the heart of their communities.

Across much of the island, a popular tourist destination, once-bustling villages have been turned into virtual ghost towns.

Humanitarian groups say that they are focusing their efforts on reaching these areas which have so far been impassable because of collapsed buildings, roads and other destruction related to Sunday's quake. Crews using heavy equipment to search a collapsed mosque in northern Lombok found three bodies but also managed to pull one man alive from the twisted wreckage.
