The worldwide community has widely criticized Washington following U.S. President Donald Trump's withdrawal from a major nuclear pact and resumption of sanctions on Iran.

"China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions and long-armed jurisdiction", the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Wednesday, addressing Trump's decision Monday to reimpose sanctions on Tehran.

North Korea has been pursuing its weapons programmes in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions and sanctions.
