Vince to replace injured Jason Roy in ODI India series decider

19 July, 2018, 00:44 | Author: Lula Armstrong
  • The video grab of MS Dhoni taking the match ball from the umpires went viral on social media

If Roy misses out, Hampshire captain James Vince could be in line for his first ODI appearance in almost two years, although Monday saw England call up Kent's Sam Billings as additional batting cover for the series finale in Leeds.

Dhawan turned back but, stretching out, could not beat Stokes´s direct hit and was run out for 44. However, at the end of the match and the series, all that people are talking about is MS Dhoni's retirement from ODI.

Vince, dropped from the Test team at the start of the summer, scored over 500 runs in Hampshire's victorious Royal London One Day Cup campaign this summer and may have the chance to add to his previous four ODI innings due to Alex Hales' injury and Dawid Malan's involvement with England Lions.

On Tuesday, with wickets falling in regular intervals, Dhoni remained calm and managed to score 42 runs off 66 balls.

But the introduction of Yorkshire fast bowler Liam Plunkett helped India break the shackles.

His legendary finishing skills and the ability to accelerate innings have been on the wane but current skipper Virat Kohli has backed him to the hilt, dismissing any criticism directed at the senior player.

James Vince, called up in place of the injured Jason Roy cut the first ball of England's reply, from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, for four.

Fittingly, they were guided to a 2-1 series victory by an unbroken third-wicket...

After containing India to 256-8, England's Joe Root and captain Eoin Morgan combined for an unbeaten 186 runs to get them home with 33 balls to spare. He got the important wickets of a set Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Suresh Raina and pegged back India.

England opener Jason Roy may miss a one-day worldwide series decider against India that Mark Wood views as flawless preparation for next summer's World Cup.

They easily handled the threat of India spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, who combined for 20 overs, conceded 96 overs, and no wickets.

After Morgan won the toss, Rohit Sharma, who scored a superb century during India's eight-wicket win in the series-opener at Trent Bridge, struggled to make two off 18 balls, his innings ending when he flicked Willey to Wood at deep square leg.
