Putin Summit Should Proceed: Pompeo

  • Trump says 'might' ask Putin to extradite accused Russian hackers..

Ahead of his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Helsinki later in the day, United States President Donald Trump on Monday blamed Washington D.C.'s foolishness and stupidity for the poor state of relations with Moscow.

Trump told CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor he believes there is value meeting with world leaders such as Putin and North Korea's Kim Jong-Un, and that there is little risk to the planned meeting in Helsinki, Finland where they're expected to discuss relations between the United States and Russian Federation and a range of national security issues. The president says he has "low expectations" for the summit.

The United States has no extradition treaty with Moscow and can not compel Russian Federation to hand over citizens. I think the DNC should be ashamed of themselves for allowing themselves to be hacked.

President Trump will join President Putin on July 16 in Helsinki. CBS released excerpts on Sunday.

Warner also argued that the White House needs "other individuals from his administration in the room so we know that at least someone will press the Russians on making sure they don't interfere in future USA elections". I think having meetings with the president of China was a very good thing, I believe it's really good.

Setting the scene just hours ahead of his summit with Vladimir Putin, Trump took to Twitter to lash out at USA special prosecutor Robert Mueller's probe. But he has also seemed to suggest that there is not much he can do to push back against the Russian leader's denials.

The finding comes as the two leaders are set to meet in Helsinki, Finland on Monday for a much-anticipated discussion meant to strengthen relations between the rival world powers. "I think the president can put this on the table and say this is a serious matter, we need to talk about it".

Huntsman added: "The collective blood pressure between the United States and Russian Federation is off-the-charts high so it's a good thing these presidents are getting together".

Several lawmakers have spoken out since the indictments for Trump to cancel the meeting, agree to bring other United States officials in the meeting, and to prioritize discussing campaign meddling.

The president opened his first meeting with Putin - it lasted more than two hours last July in Hamburg, Germany - by pressing Putin on Russian election meddling and Putin denied being involved, according to USA officials who described the meeting afterward. "We have asked, and the Russians have agreed, that it will be basically unstructured".

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) attacked CNN's Wolf Blitzer during his show on Monday.

All three of Montana's congressional representatives backed the assessments of USA intelligence agencies that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election in statements issued Monday.

Paul ended his interview by saying that NATO's protection of sovereign countries and Russia invading them is a "chicken and egg" situation, voicing the Russian perspective that an expanding North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is a threat.
