  • Thai soccer boys weren't able to watch World Cup live

The 12 boys and their football coach who were trapped in a cave in Thailand are recovering well and have appeared in a video message.

Medics said the boys were only considered mentally strong enough on Saturday to hear the news of Mr Kunan.

Sudden floodwaters forced them to retreat deep into the Tham Luang complex, sparking a desperate hunt that seized the world's attention until they were all safely extracted on 10 July, after a nail-biting three-day mission.

'The boys all promised to be a good person and lead a good life to honour him'.

"That was a massive, massive relief. Regarding infections, through the medical evaluations in the first days there may be some of them that had minor pneumonia, but now all is cleared, no fever", Piyasakol said.

After they didn't return from their hike, Thai officials launched an extensive search-and-rescue operation involving well over 1,000 people, including specialists drafted from various nations such as Australia, China, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Clad in patient gowns and surgical masks, the boys sat up in their beds at a hospital in Chiang Rai province as they individually gave brief statements, filmed Friday and released by officials at a press conference Saturday. The father of Duangpetch Promthep, or "Dom", cast light on how their survival hung in the balance in the nine days before they were found.

Twelve young footballers and their coach rescued from a Thai cave will be released from the hospital on Thursday, health officials said, offering psychological support and urging the group to avoid media interviews despite huge interest in their against-the-odds survival story.

The 12 young footballers who were saved from a Thai cave after an worldwide rescue effort are mourning a former Navy Seal who died in the operation.

In a meticulously planned extraction, the boys put on wetsuits and diving gear before being sedated, put on stretchers and pulled or carried out through submerged passageways and up steep slopes inside the mountain.

More than a dozen countries provided assistance to the rescue operation.

"When it seemed all other options were exhausted, the decision to swim the boys out was made and the rescue went ahead". One Thai Navy SEAL died trying to save the group.

"Everyone has worked well together to bring the children out".
