Different Djokovic books his place in the final four

  • Djokovic beats darkness to reach quarter-finals

That initial burst gave Federer 34 successive sets won at Wimbledon, equaling his own record set between 2005 and 2006.

First of all, Federer was 4-0 against Anderson, winning every set.

Nishikori broke to open the fourth frame of the afternoon but immediately relinquished the advantage and Djokovic realized he was in a dog fight.

The 32-year-old Anderson struck 65 winners and grabbed a decisive break in the 23rd game of the fifth set to seal victory after four hours and 14 minutes on Court One. It was Federer who blinked, double-faulting to face a break point at 11-all, then slapping a forehand into the net.

Djokovic, victor of three singles titles at the All England Club, will next meet Japan's 24th seed Kei Nishikori. It will be Djokovic's first semi-final at a major since the 2016 French Open when he completed the career Grand Slam. "I am trying to get in the best possible shape for the biggest possible events and it doesn't come much bigger that Wimbledon.", said Novak Djokovic. "I mean, anybody who saw the match, I mean, saw that literally I kind of touched the grass", Djokovic said.

The Serbian fired early in the match to take the first set 6-3, but his smooth progress was halted by a strong Nishikori fightback in the second set. (Ramos) said he didn't see it. I think that's not fair.

This is his best run at Wimbledon since that 2015 success as he lost in the third round in 2016, and then retired hurt in the quarter-finals against Tomas Berdych 12 months ago.

Being scheduled to play last on Court One on 'Manic Monday' is something Novak Djokovic is getting rather used to - and also getting rather fed up with.

"I've been building the last couple of weeks on the level of tennis that I've played the last couple of month, the last couple of clay-court tournaments and Queen's".

"I like the level of tennis that I'm playing on right now".

After racing through the first set, Djokovic was handed his first code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct after bouncing his racquet into the grass in frustration at squandering three break points in the third game of the second set.

"You think I ruined the court for just throwing my racket (down)?"

For the only the second time at Wimbledon, Federer was beaten after holding a two-set lead, with his previous loss from that position coming against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the 2011 quarterfinals.

Asked if he had expected to be switched to Centre, where matches can go on till 11pm under floodlights, the three-times Wimbledon champion said: "Of course, it's always an option".

This, however, is already the high point of Djokovic's year, and he knows it.

"Double standards, my friend".
