Melania Trump's New Message Is Black and White

She got the chance to see the conditions of detained children at the border.

First lady Melania Trump arrives in Tucson at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, on Thursday en route to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility.

This comes after the first lady's spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed to USA Today that she would be visiting the Mexico border again this week.

The first lady had pressured her husband to change his hardline approach after images of distraught immigrant children dominated headlines in the United States and overseas. "And I'm looking forward to our discussion and to tour the facility and I'm here to support you and give my help, whatever I can for behalf of children and the families".

"Mrs. Trump plans to visit additional facilities sometime this week", Grisham said, though she did not specify a day for the trip.

Melania Trump seemingly left her controversial jacket at home for her latest trip.

Similar to her visit to Tucson, the first lady took part in a round table where she heard from officials at the Phoenix facility.

"The rhetoric we hear from the other side on this issue - as on so many others - has become radicalized", Sessions said.

Trump traded her black flats for white sneakers.

She did not wear the jacket Thursday. She nodded and said, "That's great", after being told that children remained at the Texas shelter from 42 to 45 days.

Myra Gutin, a professor at Rider University in New Jersey who studies first ladies, says that the aims of Trump's advocacy - and the extent to which they differ from her husband's - seem opaque.

The first lady also met with law enforcement and social services providers. According to Michael Humphries from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations, the Arizona ports of entry have had 1,100 unaccompanied minors since October 1, 2017.

This time, Trump travels amid upheaval over her husband's hardline approach to immigration.

This would be Trump's second visit to the border since her husband, President Donald Trump, signed an executive order last week ending his administration's practice of separating families at the border.

Earlier this week, a United States court blocked the administration from separating families at the border and ordered all children be reunited with their parents in 30 days.

Jeff Sessions is not the only Trump administration official to come under fire for the policy separating immigrant children from their parents.
