Also on Tuesday, New York officials announced that they had arrested another individual in the Bronx in connection to Guzman-Feliz's death - bringing the total number of suspects to eight.

Trinitarios, the gang that allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack, said Guzman-Feliz was not their intended target, and they'd mistaken him for someone else they'd planned a hit on, according to the New York Post.

The teen's slaying was captured on surveillance video and sparked widespread community outrage.

Several suspects appeared in court Tuesday in connection with a brutal stabbing death of a NY city teenager in what appears to be a case of mistaken identity.

A 19-year-old is facing murder charges in the brutal killing of an innocent teen in New York City. On Monday night, a huge vigil attracting hundreds was held outside, while thousands attended a wake for the boy.

A source told PIX11 that one gang member was angry because a relative was featured in a sex video and thought Guzman-Feliz was in the video.

All of Guzman-Feliz's suspected attackers are alleged members of a Dominican-American gang known as the "Trinitarios". Celebrities including Rihanna and The Game have shared the #JusticeforJunior on social media. The chief of detectives, Dermot F. Shea, said the case showed how the police and the public could work together to fight crime and violent gangs.

"It's good because they have to pay, but I want my son back", Leandra Feliz, the teenager's mother, told CNN affiliate WCBS.

"Bronx streets are ruthless", Cardi B said in a post.

Santiago Rodriguez, 24, face homicide, manslaughter, and assault charges in New York City, said assistant Passaic County prosecutor Nick Katsanos during the hearing.

The gang has been linked to several attacks in New York including a fatal stabbing in the Bronx on June 18 that left a 14-year-old in critical condition, the New York Times reported. The rapper, a Bronx native, reportedly donated $8,000 to a GoFundMe campaign dedicated to his family's funeral expenses.

He spent a great deal of time with the Explorers program sponsored by the New York Police Department (NYPD) that specializes in mentoring and encouragement from officers.

"What piss me off the most is that these BX cops be harassing the sh** outta people then they see a boy bleeding to death and ask what happen?" she wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of the teen's mother holding onto him as he lay on a hospital gurney.
