Merkel and Macron Agreed on a Separate Eurozone Budget

Three-quarters of Germans do not believe Chancellor Angela Merkel will manage to secure a European solution to the immigration dispute that is plaguing her relationship with her Bavarian allies in government, a survey showed on Wednesday.
The leaders of Germany and France agreed Tuesday to create a Eurozone budget they hope will boost investment and provide a safety mechanism for the 19 nations using the euro currency, and also to seek a European solution to migration issues.
News agency dpa reported that Bavarian governor Markus Soeder said Wednesday: "We can not launch extra shadow budgets now or try to weaken the stability of the currency".
Backing Merkel on the make-or-break migrant issue, he said France and Germany would seek agreements to ensure newcomers whose details were already in European Union databases "can be taken back as quickly as possible to the country where they were registered".
Interior minister Horst Seehofer, also from the CSU, added: "Unfortunately, there were no discussions with us on this topic in advance, so we should not be now surprised that many questions and interpretations are emerging". "They must not be mixed up with each other".
After their joint cabinet meeting near Berlin, Macron called for a "more efficient system of solidarity and responsibility" on registering and distributing asylum seekers.
