Stunning England break ODI record to crush Australia

England have registered their biggest ever win in ODIs in terms of runs in the third ODI against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

"I did know at the start of the series I was close and to pass someone like Ian Bell (as highest ever ODI scorer) is something that is satisfying and the way I struck it today you just have to do that", he said.

Paine admitted it was the hardest day of his cricket career but said the two-day gap before the match in Durham gave the side the opportunity to get the humiliation out of their system.

By contrast, this was England's biggest victory in the format, topping their 210-run win against New Zealand at Edgbaston in 2015.

Only details remained - and they all favoured world number ones England who can therefore contemplate the possibility of a first 5-0 ODI whitewash of their Ashes rivals.

"They played some unbelievable cricket shots", he said.

Bairstow's hundred was his fourth in six ODIs while Hales's century ended a run of low scores.

Andrew Tye went for 100 from nine overs, Richardson may have taken three wickets, but his ten overs cost the Aussies 92 runs and Marcus Stoinis was taken for 85 from his eight overs.

Bairstow and Jason Roy put on 159 for the first wicket before the opener was dismissed for 82 when he was run out by Paine after a good throw from D'Arcy Short. But he was back to his best at his home ground in Nottingham and reached three figures even quicker than Bairstow, his seventh global ton coming off 62 balls.

The news did not impress Ganguly, who took to Twitter to express his fear for the future of cricket particularly concerning Australia.

Hales exited to a smart catch from Ashton Agar, again off Richardson who then found himself on a hat-trick when Eoin Morgan picked out Paine following a quickfire 67 after hitting the ball high in the air.

Australia, however, were gifted a wicket when Roy ran himself out going for a needless second run. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid bagged 4 for 47. "Their top three are brutal". This is the joint-eleventh most by a bowler in an ODI innings. I mean they are young and we recognise that. Suffice to say, all pretence of maintaining a balance between bat and ball disappears in such circumstances.
