Mexico may been a long way from home, but it was clearly the home team in its World Cup opener.

The result means that Serbia lead Group E after beating Costa Rica 1-0 earlier in the day.

"I don't know if it's the biggest victory in (Mexico's) history, but one of the biggest for sure", Lozano said after the game.

Both the teams will start their FIFA World Cup journey from Moscow this year as they will come face to face at the Luzhniki Stadium tonight.

Joshua Kimmich has been regularly hailed as the best right-back in the world over the past year for the way he bombs forward, creates chances and scores goals.

The world champions play Sweden on Saturday, and it's a must-win game. Germany are the Confederations Cup champions, and had a fantastic season in the World Cup Qualifiers. "Our cover was often not good and we were left many times with just Jerome [Boateng] and myself at the back", centre-back Hummels said. Mesut Ozil struggled, particularly in the first-half. The only time the ball was in midfield was when it was passing through to either end, with the teams combined for 18 shots.

Hector Herrera then tested Neuer at the 10-minute mark with a long-range attempt, but the goalkeeper, who endured a lengthy injury layoff this season with Bayern Munich, made a clean diving catch. The Mexico all-time leading scorer slipped a pass to a streaking Lozano on the right channel, where the PSV winger cut back to his right foot and beat Neuer low and inside the near post. The problems began past year when the US Treasury Department accused team captain Rafael Marquez of being a front man for a drug kingpin. Below are some reactions to Mexico's first world cup win.

On the way to that latter title, Germany saw off Mexico, who have themselves grown under the tutelage of Juan Carlos Osorio, in charge since 2015. In the many tournaments before we always won the first match but we have to accept this situation. Eighteen of its shots came in the second half, when it enjoyed a 2-to-1 advantage in time of possession.

"But today we deserved to win for what we showed, ran and gave".
