Emery's faces baptism of fire as Arsenal to open against City

  • BREAKING: Manchester City to start title defence at Arsenal

After the opening-weekend game at Etihad Stadium, the Gunners travel to fellow top-six contenders Chelsea.

Their second home game - not until the weekend of September 15 - sees Liverpool visit the as yet unnamed 62,000 arena on the site of the old White Hart Lane.

The opening round of Premier League fixtures is completed by Southampton's clash with Burnley at St Mary's and Watford taking on Brighton & Hove Albion at Vicarage Road.

During the opening six fixtures, City are due to play all three promoted teams, handing Guardiola's men the ideal opportunity to make another strong start to the season.

"It was always our intention to seek permission to play the first few games away". They will be hosting Huddersfield on Boxing Day before travelling to Newcastle United on New Year's Day.

Guardiola will look to retain the Premier League title for the first time since Manchester United in 2008/09.

Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated game next season will not be the Manchester derby, but the first clash between City and Liverpool at Anfield on October 6.

Elsewhere, Manchester United host Leicester City, Tottenham head to Newcastle United, Liverpool play West Ham at Anfield and Huddersfield Town host Chelsea. Liverpool will be at home to Everton in the first fixture of the two.

The traditional Premier League 'Clasico' between Liverpool and United is due to be staged at Anfield on December 15, with the return taking place at Old Trafford on February 23.

Liverpool FC will be aiming to go one step further in the Champions League this season after Jurgen Klopp's men reached the final but ended up losing to Real Madrid 3-1 last month in Kiev.

We are still unsure about which players are coming in or who our manager would be.

But despite the ease or difficulty of a team's early fixtures, the reality that all the clubs face next season is that City will once again be the side to beat.
