Iconic Fashion Designer, Kate Spade Found Dead In Her Apartment

Born as Katherine Noel Brosnahan in Kansas City, Missouri, the designer started off as a journalist at the now defunct fashion magazine Mademoiselle. "But she kept watching it and watching it over and over". She claims Spade was "fixated" when the news broke of Robin Williams' suicide in 2014, and she thinks she had a plan in motion back then.

Designer Kate Spade, who committed suicide in NY, suffered for years from mental illness but had refused treatment, her sister said Wednesday. Saffo told the Kansas City Star. "Kate really removed herself from society, from NY, from the fashion world, and she really just focused, I think, on being a mom". Saffo claimed that family members had tried to help Kate with her depression, but Kate had anxious about what a potential hospitalization would do to her "happy-go-lucky" image, on which she'd built her brand. They say that Saffo has been estranged from the family for more than a decade, and they couldn't believe she chose now to make "unsubstantiated comments". They agreed to fly in and talk with her and take her with them to the treatment center.

"I'd flown out to Napa and NYC several times in the past 3-4 years to help her to get the treatment she needed (inpatient hospitalization)", Saffo wrote.

Frances Valentine, a handbag-and-shoe company founded by Spade and her husband, Andy Spade, in 2015, stayed silent in the immediate aftermath of the designer's death. I'd spoken with them on the phone (not telling them exactly who the patient would be).

As for her final days, Shuter pointed out, "Behind the scenes, it was loneliness".

Speaking publicly for the first time since her death, Andy said that his wife had suffered from depression and anxiety and was being treated by a doctor for the past five years.

Speaking to US Dr. Mehmet Oz on The Dr. Oz Show, Ivanka said: "With each of my three children I had some level of postpartum depression".

Whatever the reason, Saffo - who wrote to the Star from her home in New Mexico, will miss her sister.

"Bea - I have always loved you", the note allegedly read.

"As an accessory, a great bag that takes the outfit somewhere else is interesting", she told the AP in a 2000 interview. "Andy wanted a divorce but Kate did not", TMZ reported on Wednesday, June 6. However, it appears he was at the apartment when Spade's body was discovered.

The pair married in 1994, a year after launching the Kate Spade fashion brand which catapulted the designer to worldwide fame. After becoming a retail giant, a portion of the company was sold to Neiman Marcus Group in 1999, and the rest of the company in 2006. Recently, Spade moved on to launch a new luxury brand, Frances Valentine.

Other reports suggest that Spade's death is similar to another high-profile suicide - that of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, the longtime girlfriend of Mick Jagger.
