  • Karius accepts blame for Liverpool's Champions League heartbreak

"It has been very nice playing for Real Madrid".

Taking the blame: Loris Karius has accepted responsibility for Liverpool's defeat by Real Madrid.

Brilliant Bale breaks Liverpool hearts Bale came off the bench to score twice in the second half of Real's 3-1 win in Kiev on Saturday.

And Karim Benzema's goal was entirely the fault of Karius, who threw the ball at Benzema's outstretched leg only to watch it rebound into his empty net.

Speaking after the final, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had described the injury as "serious" amid fears Salah had suffered a dislocated shoulder.

No Liverpool players went to console Karius, who was pictured covering his face while disembarking the team's plane when it arrived back at John Lennon Airport on Sunday morning.

But Salah said in a Twitter post that despite the disappointment of what he called a "tough night", he was confident of recovering in time to partake in the Pharaohs World Cup campaign in Russian Federation. The force takes social media posts of this nature extremely seriously and any offences identified will be investigated.

The injury now puts Salah's World Cup prospects in jeopardy, though he will have to await a doctor's scan before any decision is made. "I'm infinitely sorry to my team-mates, for you fans, and for all the staff", he tweeted. I know I let them down. "It wasn't the right time, but I was honest", Sky Sports News quotes him as saying.

"It's even worse as we all felt that we could have beaten Real Madrid and we were in the game for a long time. I'm sorry for everyone - from the team, from the whole club - that the mistakes cost dearly", Karius told TalkSport. "We came back really quick and then a wonderful goal from Bale, and then the third goal was really hard for us".
