Tony Bellew makes easy work of David Haye in all-British rematch

David Haye's 16-year boxing adventure is all but parked in the past, while his conqueror for the second time at the seething O2 Arena, Tony Bellew, is determined to rumble on to even bigger nights against Andre Ward or even Tyson Fury.

Haye was down three times before referee Howard Foster waved the fight off in the fifth stanza with the Hayemaker bravely trying to continue, but in no position to do so.

David Haye didn't give any hints that he would be retiring but it could well have been his last fight with his body appearing to fail him once more.

The first few rounds saw both men coming out a lot more measured, in comparison with the first fight, with Haye coming out looking to box a lot more; whilst looking considerably looser and more relaxed. I know what I can do. Injuries and a stop-start career have taken their toll on the 37-year-old, and Bellew exposed those truths for the second successive fight.

Haye's aim had been to fight the division's best again after last doing so when he lost the WBA world heavyweight title on points in a unification fight with Ukraine's Wladimir Klitschko in 2011.

An emotional Bellew said: "David Haye is an awesome fighter, he just got caught in a slugfest".

The last fight with David Haye was good but this was a step up.

On Saturday night he kept his word as he unleashed the pain of a awful year on Haye in the heavyweight rematch at the o2.

"Tony boxed better than I did, plain and simple, and the better man won".

Bellew, the former WBC cruiserweight champion, was again considered the underdog but is enjoying the finest run of his career. "Boxing is the only thing I have ever understood - I certainly don't understand women".

"Emotionally I haven't really been there in this camp". I was in the hotel on my own all week and each night I have cried.

His promoter Eddie Hearn added: "If he retires tomorrow, I would be the happiest man in the world". If Haye has any doubts the time has come for him to grab his coat and call a taxi, the fact he still has his health, film-star looks, money in the bank as well as a lifetime of memories of thrilling knockouts that left fans on the edge of their seats should be enough to ease the pain. He was there and I dedicate this fight to Ash. He's getting ready for the Champions League Final, the Kopite t***!
