  • Five things to watch in Pelicans - Warriors Game 3 tonight

In this edition of the Warriors Report, we go through the Warriors Game 3 highlights from their loss over the New Orleans Pelicans. The game became so lopsided that Warriors coach Steve Kerr emptied the bench his team trailed, 114-89, with 4:59 left. "They played really well". It's indeed reasonable to anticipate that playing time will gradually increase, at least depending on how the matchup is harmonizing.

While it was a foregone conclusion in New Orleans' previous series that Anthony Davis was the best player on the floor, the former No. 1 overall pick was destined to have more players his caliber this series.

"We feel we're a great team", said Pelicans guard Rajon Rondo.

With nine points by the end of the opening quarter, Hill notched the most points he's scored in any of the Pelicans' seven playoff games this postseason and tied the most he's scored in a game this season. Stephen Curry, in his second game back after a sprained knee sidelined him more than a month, missed 13 of 19 shots and finished with 19 points. When the final buzzer sounded, the Pelicans had a 119-100 win, and narrowed the deficit to 2-1.

Free throw disparity. The disparity in shooting fouls was a huge story, at least for frustrated Pelicans fans, after the first two games of this series.

Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson proved to be essential as the Warriors averaged 122 points in both games.

It appeared as if the Warriors were primed for their customary 3rd quarter run, down single digits despite getting roundly outplayed in the first half.

Davis, who had just three points, got more involved, scoring eight points as the Pelicans rebuilt the lead to 55-42. "So regardless of what people say or what the writers have reported, we're going to continue to fight each game and we're going to play for each other".

"They're a scary team", Gentry said of the Warriors. Thompson finished with 26 points on 9-of-22 shooting, a somewhat respectable line after missing his first four shots.

Finally, New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry has a reason to smile. Stephen Curry, in his first start in almost six weeks since injuring his MCL, shot 6-for-19 and scored only 19 points. The Warriors' do-it-all forward is averaging a triple-double for the series (15.7 points, 10.7 assists and 12.0 rebounds), having tallied one and coming within an assist of another, and a rebound in another. It proves that they are more than capable of competing in this series.

But it wasn't enough for the Warriors to battle back from, after a poor third quarter that Pelicans won 30-19.

The tenor of Game 3 was radically different from the first two games of the series.
