NRA Convention Bans Guns To Protect Mike Pence. Parkland Survivors' Jaws Drop

Legally-carried guns will be allowed during the National Rifle Association convention in Dallas this week, but not during Vice President Mike Pence's appearance at the event.

The NRA-ILA Leadership Forum will begin Thursday in Dallas, Texas. The ban was put in place by the Secret Service.

Attendees were similarly restricted from carrying weapons during President Trump's speech to the NRA in Atlanta a year ago. But some victims of the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed February 14, criticized the policy as hypocritical. Matt Deitsch, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who helped organize the "March for Our Lives" protest, wrote on Twitter.

Texas has more registered firearms than any other state, according to the Bureau for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

In the days after the Florida shooting, the NRA and President Trump suggested arming teachers, in order to protect children when faced with a mass shooter.

But this year's appearance will be the first since Trump told lawmakers not to fear the NRA in the wake of the Parkland shooting and floated some responses opposed by the organization, including raising the legal age to buy certain firearms to 21. "However once they placed on a conference, the weapons are a priority?" Sign now to demand Mike Pence pull out of the NRA convention.

The irony was not lost on some Parkland students and parents. He said Trump's decision to attend was a mistake. Another user, Grundy1133 said, "I've decided not to attend". The NRA doesn't ban these things, the Secret Service did during President Trump's speech.

"He needs to go because he's seeing the other side gaining territory", Marin said.

In a rare occurrence, even some NRA supporters have voiced opposition to the gun prohibition at the leadership forum, even though the overall meeting will include "more than 20 acres" of firearms exhibits. This step drew plenty of criticism from gun control advocates who believe that stricter gun laws should restrict guns in many areas throughout the USA including schools, churches, and other public places.

The president's record of picking federal judges who support a broad interpretation of Second Amendment rights has kept him in the good graces of the powerful gun lobby.

They'll have to lay down their arms for the president. "No excuses for this.it makes us look stupid".

"This president is doing what he's always done: supporting gun rights", Grisham said.
