White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has called President Donald Trump "an idiot" on multiple occasions, mocking the President's lack of policy expertise and ignorance of basic government functions, according to a Monday afternoon NBC News report.

However one official claimed "the President hates reading these stories, he hates it", and that tensions between Trump and Kelly have been growing for weeks. Whether NBC's sources spoke to the outlet in hopes of pushing Kelly out for good is unclear - some officials told NBC he'd be gone by July - but the president is unlikely to react kindly to any questioning of his all-powerful brain. I am committed to the President, his agenda, and our country'.

'This is another pathetic attempt to smear people close to President Trump and distract from the administration's many successes, ' Kelly continued. "I have no reason to question his mental fitness".

In recent months, Mr Trump has chafed at Mr Kelly's controlling management style and has occasionally talked with friends about replacing him.

"Several sources interviewed by the publication shared comments that they attributed to Kelly, including "[Trump] doesn't even understand what DACA is.

Kelly's comment came as the officials deliberated on the future of the United States effort in Syria, following Trump's off-the-cuff comments saying he was determined to get U.S. troops out of the country.

While people who are honest and keep tabs on the president are valuable assets, it's also disheartening that the people who end up in those positions often push him toward even more radical anti-immigration policies.

Adding to that abhorrent list, the NBC report Monday also revealed that Kelly perpetuates a culture of sexism in the West Wing. That episode created what White House officials described as an irreparable rift between Trump and his chief diplomat, and ultimately led to Tillerson's unceremonious March firing.

They also said that Kelly often steps in if other aides use curse words in front of women in the White House.

The leaks are the latest indication that Kelly may be losing influence in the Trump administration. "He's an idiot", Kelly said in a meeting about the program that protects hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants brought into the country as children, according to two officials in attendance.

General Kelly is a 45-year military veteran and was in charge of Southern Command, responsible for military operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean, from 2012 until his retirement in January 2016.

The two men's relationship has reportedly been unraveling recently, and the NBC report points to some hallmarks in the deterioration.
