On Saturday, Trump told a rally in Washington Township, Michigan that, in his words, "Strength is going to keep us out of nuclear war, not get us in", Earlier, he said details of the summit are being ironed out, and that he'd spoken with the leaders of South Korea and Japan about preparations for the meeting.

"That's very nice, thank you".

"Nobel! Nobel!" they chanted, cutting off Trump's typically freewheeling update on his efforts on Korea. "Nobel", he said, with a massive grin on his face. "That's very nice", the president said, truly meaning his words. It wasn't clear if he was chuckling because he found the idea ridiculous or because he thought it wasn't a bad idea.

While it remains unknown if Trump will be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, four of his predecessors have been honored with the distinction, including: Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt.

Even so, peace talks between North and South Korea started in January of this year, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in credited the US president with having "made a huge contribution to make inter-Korean talks happen". "He gives us all the credit", Trump said. According to a leading London bookie, the Korea reconciliation initiative is now the favourite for the prize in 2018, with Kim and Moon front-ending it. Trump is the next favourite.

Moments later, one loud voice started chanting, "Nobel!"

These included appointing conservative judges, protecting tax cuts approved by the Republican-led Congress, and reforming U.S. immigration laws, which Trump branded "the dumbest in the world".

He called supporters to vote Democrats out of office, remarking at the rally, "the Democrats don't care about our military". And so do a few lawmakers, some of whom are known to have been bitterly critical of him in the past.

United States President Donald Trump on Saturday (local time) suggested that a meeting between the U.S. and North Korea is likely possible in "three or four weeks". But it's when Trump began talking about North Korea that the crowd erupted nearly immediately.

Ian Bremmer, a leading expert on global relations who has been critical of Trump's foreign policy, has weighed in on the president's side as well.

According to a Bloomberg report, one of the top British bookmakers has Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un as favorites to take home the coveted prize.
