NFL Draft: LSU CB Donte Jackson picked by the Carolina Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Panthers enter the final day of the National Football League draft Saturday with six picks thanks to a trade by general manager Marty Hurney.

Hurney said having the first pick of the third day of the draft is a "valuable spot" to be as they have all night to think about the pick.

With the first pick Saturday, the Panthers drafted tight end Ian Thomas out of Indianna.

Donte Jackson is part of what is expected to be a big draft for LSU, joining the likes of running back Derrius Guice, wide receiver DJ Chark, edge rusher Arden Key and at least five other players who have the potential to be drafted this weekend. The 6-foot, 237-pound linebacker is likely to play on special teams as a rookie. The Panthers have two more picks to make - barring any trades - in the seventh round, the 234th and 242nd overall selections. That goes beyond just playing the game. Gaulden started 10 games in his junior year and recorded 65 tackles, forced three fumbles and recovered three more; he also added six passes defensed over the course of the season. He played outside cornerback, nickel cornerback and spent some time at free safety in order to get LSU's best defensive backs on the field.
