  • New lead in death of Palestinian engineer

Israeli soldiers arrested two Palestinian men who crossed into Israel from Gaza armed with a grenade and a knife.

Two men on a motorcycle fired at least 14 shots at Fadi al-Batsh, an engineering lecturer, in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, killing him on the spot.

Enas Al Batash, who had been living in Malaysia for the past seven years, says her husband was a kind and optimistic person. On Tuesday, Mr Fuzi had pointed out that while photofits of the two gunmen have been sent to all immigration checkpoints, there was a possibility that the two men had escaped through illegal means.

In a statement from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, the victim's family said, "We accuse the Mossad of being behind the assassination". In addition, he charged that Israel was behind the fatal shooting of a Hamas drone expert in Malaysia.

Ynet cited a scientific study co-written by Batash and two other researchers from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Islamic University of Malaysia entitled "Challenges of Integrating Unmanned Aerial Vehicles In Civil Use".

Malaysia's police chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun said a task force has been formed to investigate the killing but would not speculate on the motive or whether foreign assassins were involved.

The Hamas movement has vowed revenge for al-Batsh's death.

The Palestine Embassy in Malaysia confirms that the Egyptian government has given the permission to transfer the remains of slain Palestine lecturer Dr Fadi M R AlBatsh to Gaza.

Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman dismissed claims of Mossad's role in the murder and said it was likely that Batsh was killed as part of an internal Palestinian dispute.

"The team cordoned off the area with police tape and called in the Forensics Unit and Bomb Disposal Unit, just in case", said one source.

In a speech broadcast to a campaign rally in the Shi'ite Beirut neighborhood of Dahiyeh ahead of Lebanon's elections next month, Nasrallah said Israel was hunting academics down around the world.
