  • FILE A fraternity at Syracuse University was permanently expelled Saturday

The Department Chief said those 18 students will be removed from classes and alternative study arrangements will be made for them while the judicial process moves forward. SU refused to release the video, but The Daily Orange obtained a recording of the video and posted it on its website Wednesday.

Syracuse University has permanently expelled a campus fraternity after a video surfaced of members using racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic and ableist slurs.

Students are calling on the university to release more of the fraternity's videos, but Syverud has so far resisted, saying he wants to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Theta Tau issued a statement on Friday apologizing for the content, and said the video was part of a new member initiation "satirical sketch".

Amid ongoing investigations, the fraternity chapter insist that the video was meant to be "satirical" and that they were deliberately acting like an intolerant person for the goal of the "sketch".

He said the research into the Theta Tau video clips was others and continuing "maybe implicated in the forthcoming days" Syracuse.com reports that students can deal with suspensions of expulsions.

"The young man playing the part of this character nor the young man being roasted do not hold any of the disgusting views espoused as a part of that sketch". "There is absolutely no place at Syracuse University for tolerance of this behavior". "They especially offend all Syracuse University holds dear about diversity and inclusion of people with disabilities", said Syverud. Maldonado said the university will not release the videos. Theta Tau was later suspended.

The video prompted protests from students, including one in front of Kent's home, demanding he takes more serious action against the fraternity.

Syverud also says there will be a "top-to-bottom review of our entire Greek system", acknowledging that the issue goes much deeper than the most incident, according to NBC News.
