One of the more freaky and eye-catching parts of the newly released memos former FBI Director James Comey wrote after his conversations with President Trump is a comment Trump reportedly made at a February 8, 2017, meeting in the Oval Office.

The Trump administration has loudly complained about leaks, and Trump himself has repeatedly accused Comey of being a leaker.

She writes: "The central themes that Comey returns to throughout this impassioned book are the toxic consequences of lying; and the corrosive effects of choosing loyalty to an individual over truth and the rule of law".

Mr Comey has painted Mr Trump as "morally unfit" to be United States president, and suggested he may have obstructed justice by trying to pressure him into dropping any investigation into Mr Flynn.

Flynn, who was sacked before he could serve a month as Trump's national security advisor, has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and is cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller 's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.

Collins said they should always follow protocols and guidelines, "which unfortunately James Comey did not do", and her second piece of advice was "Don't write a book in the middle of an investigation".

McCabe's lawyer, Michael Bromwich, told reporters Friday morning that he recently met with prosecutors in Washington considering a criminal referral of McCabe for an alleged "lack of candor" to Justice Department Inspector General investigators.

At a meeting in Trump Tower in NY just days before Mr Trump's inauguration in January 2017, Mr Comey spoke alone with the then president-elect about details of an alleged encounter involving prostitutes in Russian Federation.

Mr Trump tweeted that the memos showed there was no "collusion and no obstruction". Trump added that he had "other concerns" about Flynn and felt like he had to fire him after Flynn purportedly misled Vice President Mike Pence over a phone call he had with the Russians during the transition phase.

The foreign leader's name is redacted in the documents, but two people familiar with the call tell the AP it was Putin.

Reince Priebus asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation if it was keeping tabs on Flynn.

Flynn was forced to resign less than a month into his tenure as national security adviser when it emerged that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Sergei Kislyak, then Russia's ambassador to the U.S., during the transition period.

'That's what worries me, ' Collins said.

"I wake up some mornings and read the president is demanding the jailing of private citizens - occasionally me", Comey told host Emily Maitlis.

The memos were provided to Congress as House Republicans escalated criticism of the Justice Department, threatening to subpoena the documents and questioning officials. President Trump was concerned about Andrew McCabe and twice asked Comey whether McCabe was hostile to him.
