Meanwhile, The Washington Post reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation may also have seized recordings that Cohen made of his conversations.

Trump lawyers want to review a 22-page government filing answering the Cohen legal team's request for a temporary restraining order blocking the feds from going through the paperwork.

Agents also searched for evidence on whether Cohen tried to suppress damaging information about Trump during the 2016 presidential race, the article said.

"His attorney-client privilege is no greater than any other person who seeks legal advice", he said.

The Justice Department said Friday that Cohen is part of a criminal investigation.

Sources familiar with the search warrants tell CBS News the documents mentioned President Trump's name several times....

Michael Cohen's office and hotel room were raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the agents seeking, among other items, records pertaining to the tape, The New York Times reported Wednesday. Both women say they had affairs with Trump.

Hendon asked for a delay in court proceedings until at least Monday, saying she needed to research the law.

Michael Avenatti, the attorney for Trump love interest/porn star Stormy Daniels, also appeared at the courthouse asking to address the court Friday afternoon.

Trump has called the raids a "witch hunt", "an attack on our country", and a violation of rules that ordinarily make attorney client communications confidential. Outside court, he said: "We have every reason to believe that some of the documents seized relate to my client".

Daniels has publicly stated the payment was hush money to insure her silence about a 2006 affair with Trump.

A lawyer for President Donald Trump sought in court on Friday to stop USA prosecutors from deciding what materials seized from his personal attorney can be used in a probe that began with a referral by investigators looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

The FBI was also looking for information about the $150,000 payment made by the publisher of the National Enquirer, American Media Inc. -whose owner is friends with the president-to former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
