North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un mentioned future talks with the USA at a party meeting, state media reported on Tuesday.

Mr Kim is a notoriously heavy smoker and his former spy chief was reportedly left frozen in terror when Chung Eui-yong, the director of the South Korean National Security Council, told him to consider quitting cigarettes during a conversation over dinner in Pyongyang last month.

Bolton, in a March interview, said that his preference will be for precisely a Libya-style settlement of North Korea's nuclear program, which remains both unrealistic and dead on arrival.

For decades, North Korea has dangled the prospect of "denuclearization" - freezing its nuclear weapons programs - but only if the U.S. withdraws its forces from South Korea.

The president remained hopeful that his meeting with the DPRK leader would be "much different than it has been for many, many years ago".

United States media reported that U.S. and North Korean intelligence officials have spoken several times with a focus on nailing down a location for the summit.

Kim also has expressed willingness to hold talks with the United States.

So that will be very exciting, I think, for the world.

The two countries have been holding secret meetings to prepare for the summit, trying to work out the logistics of time and meeting place. Till then Washington was yet to hear directly from Pyongyang on the invitation extended by Kim via South Korean intermediaries.

Last year, an increasingly bellicose North Korea declared that it had a "state nuclear force", and now finds itself under some of the strictest sanctions ever imposed by the United Nations because of its nuclear and missile tests.

Though Kim Jong-un has yet to clarify what steps he has in mind for the United States and South Korea, it's highly likely that in order for any concessions from the North Korean side, Kim will request serious modifications to the US presence on the Korean peninsula. Trump said: "They've said so".

Mongolia's capital Ulaanbaatar is also considered as one of the possible locations, the report added.

The confirmation offers the administration greater assurances that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is committed to a potential meeting with Trump by the end of next month.
