This year marks the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from 8 to 19 May.

Solo: A Star Wars Story making its debut at the Cannes Film Festival follows something of a trend for the film series.

He was been working in Hollywood as well with projects like SINGULARITY; LOVE YOU TO DEATH, THE DARJEELING LTD and HARE KRISHNA. Solo opens in the U.S. on May 25. This year Han Solo will get all the attention, and he's bringing along his pals to share in the glory (but not the reward of course). Entertainment Weekly has additional details about the film festival's ties to the franchise and Star Wars creator George Lucas.

The Spanish-language psychological thriller, written and directed by Farhadi, stars the Oscar-winning Penelope Cruz as a mother (Carolina) who travels with her family from Buenos Aires back to her small hometown outside Madrid, Spain, for a celebration.

The screening in the Grand Amphitheatre Lumière at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes promises to be an event for all fans of the saga and everyone in attendance.

The movie, which stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young smuggler Han Solo and Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, also stars Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Thandie Newton (Westworld),.

The Ron Howard-helmed film is the second of the anthology, the first being 2016's Rogue One, which was a total hit to the viewers and which premiered in Los Angeles.
