Raniere co-founded a purported self-help group called Nxivm. Its creator, Keith Raniere, was arrested on Monday on charges of sex trafficking.

Due to the notoriety of the cult (also known as DOS), it emerged that Mack joined the group alongside fellow "Smallville" star Kristin Kreuk, who took to Twitter on Thursday to break her silence about her involvement in the group, refuting rumours that she recruited young women in the cult.

Kreuk was the first to join NXIVM around 2005/2006 and she brought Mack into the cult shortly afterward.

"I am deeply disturbed and embarrassed to have been associated with NXIVM", Kreuk wrote. The group's founder, Raniere, allegedly dominated numerous women, controlling what they ate and making them perform sexual favors on him.

These new details add to accusations from a New York Times piece last October in which former cult members described their experiences inside the group, including a ceremony that involved branding a symbol which included Raniere's initials into the skin on their hip.

"Thank you to all of the fearless women who have come forward to share their stories and expose DOS; I can't imagine how hard this has been for you", Keruk's statement continued.

She claims she got involved with Nxivm to deal with her "previous shyness" but "never experienced any illegal or nefarious activity".

"Thank you to all the courageous women who have come forward to share their stories and expose DOS; I can't imagine how hard this has been for you".

In 2012 the Albany Times Union alleged Raniere was having sex with underage girls.

Kreuk emphasized that she was not part of the secretive sub-group "Dominus Obsequious Sororium (DOS)", which reportedly abused and coerced women into sex with male "masters". She even helped come up with the idea of sizzling the "brand" into initiates' skin as they were held down.

Kristin Kreuk is accused of luring unknowing victims into the organization.

Cult leader Keith Raniere was arrested in Mexico over the weekend.

Creator and founder, Keith Raniere, is denying any lawlessness in the involvement with Mack and Kreuk.

"These serious crimes against humanity are not only shocking, but disconcerting to say the least, and we are putting an end to this torture today", William Sweeney, Jr., FBI assistant director for the New York Field Office, said in a statement about the arrest of Raniere. She allegedly gave NXIVM millions of dollars to cover expenses such as private jet travel.
