"Drivers should plan their journeys, monitor weather reports and pack a snow kit of blankets, food, water and a shovel if they really need to travel".

He said: "We don't expect anything like the same impact as a result of it, although there will be some snow about".

Earlier this month experts from the Woodland Trust also revealed that snow brought on by the original Beast from the East hit many early-blooming flowers.

Across the United Kingdom, warnings are in place and Brits have been warned to avoid unnecessary travel.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkhill said: "It will be bitterly cold with some snow for many places over the weekend".

The Met Office warnings for snow and ice begin at 6pm on Friday for eastern Scotland and England, and run into all of Saturday, where nearly the entire country is included.

"It will stay windy, and it will stay very cold indeed".

Be sure to check first if you're on the train today.

The Met Office said the daytime high at Great Dun Fell, in Cumbria - at a height of 847 metres - reached -7.1C, but with wind gusts in excess of 85mph, there was a "feels like" temperature of -22C. "Meanwhile, parts of Dartmoor and South Devon could have a further 10-15 cm, with as much as 20-30 cm over some eastern parts of Dartmoor".

"'Bitterly cold' is the best way to describe it - temperatures on the face of it probably just around freezing, but with wind it's going to feel well below freezing".

"It's not common for these areas to see this type of snow", said Mr Burkhill.

A Met office amber alerted people of potential life threats in place such south-west England, south-east and mid-Wales and the West Midlands all day.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Snow showers are likely to continue throughout Sunday, with an increased chance that longer spells of snow will affect some areas".

According to UK Snow Map, which shows live realtime updates of where snow is falling based on crowd-sourced tweets, snow is falling heavily in London.

Another said: "Not settling but fat flakes".

The white stuff continued to fall this morning, and large swathes of the country were expected to see more of it as the day progressed.

And data from NetWeather shows where the snow has hit the United Kingdom - with Scotland, parts of the north east including Durham and London seeming to be the worst hit.
