The fifth-seeded Hawkeyes' first test at Bankers Life Fieldhouse comes at approximately 1:15 p.m., when Iowa faces 12th-seeded Northwestern, a 68-63 victor over Wisconsin in an opening-round game Wednesday.

Megan Gustafson has spent a season crediting her teammates for their roles in the Iowa women's basketball team's success.

Gustafson's mega performance came after a rather disappointing outing against Northwestern the day before (12 points, 9 rebounds), which helped feed her monster game. She scored 48 points, setting a Big Ten tournament and Iowa single-game record, shooting 19 of 26 from the field, setting a tournament single-game record for made field goals.

Iowa turned the ball over on the ensuing possession and after a pair of three throws by Minnesota, a Doyle lay-up pulled Iowa within 90-89 with:11 left.

"I think she was just in the zone", Minnesota Coach Marlene Stollings said. They hoped sooner or later her shots would drop. "That really gave me the confidence going into the fourth quarter".

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder pointed to turnovers and rebounds as the difference for the Hawkeyes (24-7), who had an eight-game win streak snapped. The final seven minutes was a seesaw with two ties and seven lead changes. Amanda Ollinger ended up with the ball and her last-second 3-pointer didn't come close to hitting rim.

"We're feeling real good right now".

Iowa hacked up the ball 19 times, while only taking away possession from Minnesota seven times, and, as a result, Minnesota was able to chuck up 19 more shots.

Cook's statement doesn't mention Iowa, so it's still not a guarantee he'll be back in Iowa City for the 2018-19 season. With No. 13 Ohio State first in the Big Ten, the Gophers anticipate Saturdays matchup to be tough.

Iowa fell behind by as many as 12 points (33-21) before Gustafson took over.

Carlie Wagner and Bell led the Gophers in scoring, tallying a combined 53 points in the game. "We didn't put pressure on the team going into this game".

"I think we play really well in a fast-paced game and can score well in transition", Meyer said. "As a whole the team shot the ball well, we just needed one more defensive stop". Gustafson's last points, a 3-point play, put the fifth-seeded Hawkeyes up 87-85 with 1:23 to play and broke the school record of 46 points set by Chrystal Smith on November 11, 2005. It also tops Kelsey Mitchell's Big Ten Tournament record of 43 points and shatters Iowa's Big Ten Tournament record of 28 points by Tangela Smith in 1998. Gustafson also had four blocks, while Alexis Sevillian and Kathleen Doyle each finished with nine points for Iowa.

The sophomore had 13 points and 6 rebounds in the loss to MI.

The loss snaps Iowa's eight-game winning streak that dated back to January 28.

"I'll just sit back, allow myself some time to heal, and then I'll make my decision", Cook said.
