This involves a number of criteria, including minimum hardware specifications for Android 7.0 + devices, support for bulk deployment and managed profiles and devices for a consistent application experience across deployed devices.

Minimum hardware requirements of the Android Enterprise Recommended programme include 2GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage, a 1.4GHz SoC, over 8 hours of battery life, 64-bit architecture, 2-megapixel front camera, and a 10-megapixel rear camera. The Oreo update was supposed to arrive in February but it's still a chimera for the majority of regular users.

This fall marks 10 years since the release of the first Android device.

The programme "establishes best practices and common requirements for devices and services, backed by a thorough testing process conducted by Google", said David Still, director of Android Enterprise, in a statement on Wednesday.

Google is working to help enterprises determine which Android devices are robust enough for their business via a new recommendation program.

Android Enterprise Recommended lays out a set of requirements that OEMs must follow in order to earn Google's biz badge of approval. The program specifically targets some of Android's biggest issues, including the refusal from many manufacturers to regularly issue updates. LG is also guaranteeing security patches for the phones will be delivered within 90 days from each other. Android Enterprise Recommended gives customers confidence by curating a selection of validated devices and services that meet elevated enterprise requirements from approved partners who have been trained and supported by Google.

They include the BlackBerry KEYone and Motion handsets, Google's Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, LG's V30 and G6 models, Motorola's X4 and Z2 phones, the Nokia 8, and Sony's Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, XZ Premium, XA2 and XA2 Ultra devices. Several major brands are now absent from the list though, including Samsung which already provides its own enterprise-specific features.

"You can expect more Android Enterprise Recommended devices to be added in the coming weeks and months".
