On Oct. 7, 2016, within two hours of the Access Hollywood video breaking and the intelligence community warning about Russian election meddling, WikiLeaks published a trove of emails stolen from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta.

Trump, who has said little to publicly acknowledge a threat to USA democracy that one of his top aides called "incontrovertible" on Saturday, asserted that the efforts to investigate and combat the Russian meddling had only given the Russians what they wanted, saying that "they are laughing their [a**es] off in Moscow".

"I said "it may be Russian Federation, or China or another country or group, or it may be a 400 pound genius sitting in bed and playing with his computer, '" Trump wrote". More information also alleged how Russians impose pro-Trump activities and political rallies on real Americans while pretending to be Americans. The Kremlin did not refer to Prigozhin by name in its Monday comments.

The 2013 TIME article reported, "Less than a month after he joined the Obama campaign in August of 2011, Ben Hagen faced a challenge he wasn't expecting - foreign nation-states were trying to gain access to the campaign's databases and social media accounts with extraordinarily sophisticated means, Hagen tells TIME".

After it was announced that 13 Russian nationals had been indicted by Robert Mueller for meddling in the 2016 election, the White House attempted to use the news to defend the president.

The Russians posed as Americans and spent thousands of dollars buying political advertising and also set up groups on social media sites including Facebook, according to the report.

The unproven narrative that Trump colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 elections dominated news-coverage past year according to analysis by the Media Research Center.

Trump has long insisted his campaign did not collude with Russian Federation, even as the US intelligence community, and now Mueller, have concluded that Russian Federation conducted a wide campaign to meddle in the election to help Trump win.

The indictment gives a sophisticated and comprehensive conspiracy in which the Russian defendants traveled to the USA to conduct extensive research, employ tech specialists to fine-tune posts on social media platforms to make sure that their authenticity was not in question.

In a series of tweets, Trump seemed to dismiss the severity of the Russian disinformation campaign, saying "they are laughing their asses off in Moscow" about our ongoing probes of the Kremlin's election meddling.

The indictment said that a Russian propaganda arm oversaw a criminal and espionage conspiracy to tamper in the 2016 USA presidential campaign to support Donald Trump and disparage Hillary Clinton.

The so-called Trump dossier, produced by Fusion GPS, was actively spread among politicians and journalists to fuel opposition to Trump.

"I think that others around the world watched that and determined that cyber is a cost-free intervention", Schiff said in an interview on NBC. "But you won't recognize the truth, impose sanctions or act at all".
