Ten months on, "Lovely" returned to his parent party on Saturday, saying he felt like "misfit" in the BJP.

Lovely had joined the BJP in April in 2017 raking up allegations of bribery in ticket distribution for the MCD polls by the Congress and claimed that many senior Congress leaders were feeling "suffocated" as the party is no longer what it used to be after a meeting with BJP chief Amit Shah.

Lovely had joined the BJP in April a year ago, who had raked up allegations of bribery in ticket distribution for the MCD polls by the Congress and asserted after meeting chief Amit Shah that many senior Congress leaders were feeling "suffocated" as the party is no longer what it was used to be. Gandhi welcomed him into the party fold. During the municipal elections in 2017, senior Congress leaders, including Dikshit, Haroon Yusuf, Dr AK Walia, and Sandeep Dikshit, had openly blamed the poor leadership for the disappointing results. The news of Lovely leaving the party had come when Ajay Maken, the party's Delhi unit chief, was about to make a live appearance on a TV channel. "It is my fault and I will correct it".

The defeat of the Congress prompted the party leadership to rework its strategies and send clear instructions to end factionalism to take on an aggressive BJP. Maken said he was hurt by Lovely's decision adding that he didn't quite know what to comment on a a person who gives up his ideology for political gains. "Now, we have got all of them back and we will fight the AAP and the BJP together", he said.

With Sheila and Maken agreeing to set aside their differences to put up a united face ahead of the bypolls to 20 Assembly seats, the Congress also reached out to leaders who had quit the party.

During his earlier stint with the Congress, Lovely held important portfolios such as education, tourism, urban development and transport as a minister.
