Now, an R&D team at Google is bringing the Smart Reply feature to other chat applications. Right now, only the Android operating system offers Smart Reply functionalities, so it can also serve as a major selling point for Android-based devices. Would you like to see Smart Reply arrive for your chat app?

The key feature of Reply is that it aims to bring smart replies to the next level.

The project, called "Reply", is an Android only feature that's now taking sign-ups on the web for anyone interested in giving it a try.

Now it seems that Google wants to bring the feature to more chat apps, and not just those made by Google.

Reply is created to work with a number of popular messaging services, including Google Hangouts and Allo, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Android Messages, Skype, Twitter direct messages and Slack.

"One of the many projects that we're working on within Area 120 is Reply, which suggests smart replies right in notifications from various chat apps", said a Google spokesperson. As you can see, the app is capable of analyzing the incoming message and providing you with some possible short responses. Reply will also have several automated features too. Say your phone is on Do Not Disturb mode or otherwise silent and someone sends you an urgent message. Reply will make sure to get the user's attention even when their phone is in silent mode. When a text comes during your trip, it would mute the notification and automatically respond with, "I am driving right now and will respond to you when I get to my destination", or something along those lines. The new project is still in its early development and Google may not even make it widely available outside of its Area 120 testers.

However, the idea behind the project is very promising. Smart reply offers automated replies, and like any AI-powered feature, it can be correct at times, or off the mark at various instances.

Announced in a blog post, the tech giant said the feature is now in a test period, meaning only a handful of news outlets like CNN, The Washington Post and Mashable, have the chance to embed publisher-made stories into search results.

Smart Reply feature was initially launched by the company for the email app known as Inbox.
