As a machine to create a new niche at the pinnacle of the SUV market it is sure to come with Range Rover's highest-ever price tag.

Land Rover may be known for its luxury off-road SUVs, but today it's teasing a whole different thing in the shape of the new Range Rover SV Coupe. Instead, it will be a limited-edition model of just 999 units, and it will be hand-assembled at the SV Technical Center in Ryton-on-Dunsmore in Warwickshire, England.

Right now, though, we'll have to take Jaguar Land Rover's word for it that the exterior is sufficiently striking to make those promises accurate. The below is the regular Range Rover, but most of the change will be visible from the side silhouette, according to those who've seen the vehicle.

The original Range Rover had just two doors, and to celebrate their 70th Anniversary this year Land Rover are taking the Range Rover back to its roots with a new two-door Range Rover SV Coupe.

It follows the Defender Works V8 unveiled last week, another limited edition special project reawakening the dormant Defender badge for one last hurrah, complete with 400bhp V8 and performance figures (in a straight line) to worry hot hatchbacks.

The SV Coupe is part of the "natural progression" of Range Rover toward a "more tailored, more bespoke, refined and luxurious" line-up. The interior image officially released by the vehicle maker reveals the dual tone interior that illustrates the traditional skills combined with modern technologies that have been utilised throughout the cabin.

It's likely that the auto will be powered by the top-of-the-range engine offered in a Range Rover - the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that produces up to 557bhp in the SVAutobiography model. "This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level", said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover chief design officer, in a statement.
